Frequently Asked Questions

What's included in a mystery escape?

We are a full-service travel company, so we manage all of your travel arrangements. Depending on your destination and your unique itinerary, this can include flights, accommodation, car hire or private transfers, experiences and activities, tours, restaurant reservations and more.

We will also assist with travel insurance, visas and multi-currency debit cards, as needed.

What do you mean by ‘accommodation partners’? Don’t you just book hotels the same way a travel agency would?

Nope. That’s what makes us great (if we do say so ourselves). Unlike other travel companies that select generic hotels on third party booking engines, we partner with the best hotel and accommodation brands in the industry.

Why? Because it’s how we can guarantee you’ll have an incredible time. We only send our clients to accommodation partners we have vetted and developed a strong relationship with, so that we know your experience will be seamless, and you’ll be well looked after.

Our accommodation partners include boutique, affordable luxury and ultraluxe properties,  with options for couples, friends, young families and large groups available.

How long will my mystery escape be?

That’s entirely up to you! When you complete our booking questionnaire, you’ll choose your travel dates and tell us how long you would like to be away for. Then, our team of travel specialists will plan your itinerary to match. If your travel dates are flexible, we might adjust them slightly to get you better flights or accommodation availability, but we’ll always check with you first.

How much does a Mystery Escape cost?

That’s the best part! You select your preferred holiday spend and we’ll create an itinerary to match your budget.

Luxurious weekend getaways start from $2000 for two or three nights. Domestic holidays begin at $4000 for four nights or more. International travel starts from $7500 for 6 nights or more.

On average, our clients allocate a minimum of $500 per person per night, to comfortably cover transport, accommodation and experiences.

Do I have to pay upfront? Are there payment plans available?

You’ll secure your booking with a small deposit of $880. This gives our team the green light to confirm your booking and finalised your quoted travel arrangements and costings.

Depending on whether you are travelling domestically or internationally, we’ll either require the full balance or 50% of your remaining trip total to be paid in the following three days. Full payment must be received at least 60 days prior to departure.

We also offer TravelPay Later powered by Latitude, which allows you to pay off your holiday over 6 or 12 equal monthly instalments – interest free!*

*Approved applicants only. T&Cs apply.

Can I choose to know where I’m going but keep the details a surprise?

Yes, this is quite a popular option for many of our new clients! We’ll let you know the country (if travelling overseas) or the region (if travelling within Australia), but we’ll keep the details of where you’re staying and what you’ll be doing a secret so you still get a fun surprise!

When do I receive my itinerary?

You’ll receive an email one week before your departure date, with your detailed itinerary and travel documents. Plenty time to prepare for your escape and look over what we’ve created for you before your adventure begins!

How will I know what to pack?

We’ll send you a detailed itinerary one week before you leave. Your itinerary will contain everything you need to know about your destination and accommodation, plus any activities and experiences we have planned for you. This ensures you have plenty of time to prepare and pack for your escape.

Have you ever had a client that didn't like their itinerary?

We’ve never had a client that didn’t love their escape. We’re good at what we do, and we only work with brands and partners we trust to look after you as well as we would.

Most of our clients are amazed that we were able to plan a better holiday than they could have imagined – especially our honeymooners!

What if I receive my itinerary and don’t like the destination or experiences?

It’s important to provide as much information as possible during the booking process, so that our team has all the details needed to craft your dream holiday.

On the rare occasion there is something you would like to add, skip or change about your itinerary, simply let us know within 24 hours of receiving it and we’ll take care of it for you.

What makes you different from other travel companies?

The main things that set us apart from agencies or other travel providers: we really get to know you, and we really care!

Our signature questionnaire gives us all of the information we need to build your dream escape, from your holiday style, goals and bucket list to your budget, hobbies and dietary requirements. We get to plan your adventures and big milestone celebrations, and we love the genuine connections that develop through this process.

Many of our clients go on to travel with us multiple times a year, and as we get to know you even better, the experiences we can create for you just get more wonderful!

What do I do if something goes wrong when travelling? (Eg. flights get delayed or the hotel loses my reservation?)

We take great care to ensure your escape experience runs as smoothly as possible, but of course, sometimes things are out of our control. If something happens while you’re travelling, contact your Travel Specialist straight away – we’ll take care of it for you wherever possible, or we’ll walk you through the steps you need to take onsite (eg. cancelled flights). No matter what, we’re here to support and assist you.

Do I need travel insurance?

We strongly recommend taking out a comprehensive travel insurance policy for all domestic and international travel, to provide cover for unexpected events such as delayed or cancelled flights, lost or stolen luggage, rental vehicle collision excess, a medical or dental emergency overseas, getting sick or injured overseas, cover for some Coronavirus related events (both within Australian and when travelling internationally).

As a client of Wonderlust Escapes, you’ll have access to discounts of up to 25% on NIB Travel and Cover-More travel insurance policies.

What about visas? How will I prepare if I don’t know where I’m going?

If you require a visa for your escape destination, we will advise you of this well in advance of your departure and assist you with your application to ensure you have all of your travel documentation ready to go.

What happens if I need to cancel or change my travel dates?

Life happens, we get it. Let us know as soon as possible and we’ll work with you to either postpone your travel dates, hold you trip in credit until you’re ready to book again, or organise a refund (subject to supplier cancellation policies).

Can I book a mystery escape if I’m travelling on my own?

Absolutely! Solo travel is so good for the soul. The booking process is the same, so if you want a mystery escape just for you, get in touch and we’ll make it happen.

Do you have family-friendly options available?

Yes! Many of our clients have young families with bubs and little ones, and we adore planning special experiences to help you create lasting core memories.

We’re also very mindful of the logistics and practicalities of travelling with kids! When planning your escape, our team factors in things like:

    • Flights at bub-friendly times
    • Car seats and larger hire cars to accommodate all the extra bits and pieces
    • Child-friendly activities and experiences
    • Accommodation with more than one room so that mum and dad can still enjoy themselves after the kids go to bed!

It can be nerve wracking and challenging to travel with your little ones – especially if it’s your first time doing so. With a little extra support from us, we can make the process as stress-free as possible, so that you can enjoy your well-earned down time.

Can you organise escapes for larger groups?

You bet. We love organising escapes for extended families, groups of friends or even work teams. This is often the most stressful type of holiday to try to coordinate alone, so we take pride in doing the heavy lifting for you to ensure everyone in your group loves the result (and there’s no arguing along the way!).
